Dit beeld en deze halve bladzijde tekst zijn tig maal indringender dan de gruwelijke beelden die je in het nieuws voorbij ziet komen. Maar wat zo opvallend is, is de veerkracht van de vluchtelingen. De meest onooglijke afdankertjes worden in vluchtelingenkampen als Al-Za'atari in Jordanië uitgenut om het leven aangenamer te maken. Van niets iets maken zoals één van de vluchtelingen zegt (en daarmee de titel voor het boek aandraagt) is hier tot een kunst verheven. Iedereen die zich een mening heeft gevormd over Syrische vluchtelingen of dat nog moet doen, doet er goed aan het boek Anything out of nothing van Thijs Heslenfeld en Rinke Verkerk aan te schaffen. Het voorkomt dat je beeldvorming over Syrische vluchtelingen'hoog over' gaat en los komt te staan van de vluchtelingen zelf. Een fraai boek dat je op Arabische wijze van achter tot voor tot je moet nemen. Een aanrader en niet alleen voor jezelf. Van elk verkocht exemplaar gaat 5 euro naar een gezin in het Jordaanse vluchtelingenkamp Al Za'atari. Meer dan genoeg reden om een stapeltje van dit kleinood aan te schaffen en uit te delen.
