This book is a \"how-to\" book. It takes a strategic approach to creating change within the university and in relation to the community, emphasizing what to do to expand community engagement at the university, and explaining how to minimize the risks that can accompany this work. The authors provide a clear path to creating an engaged university and institutionalizing change so that it becomes integrated into the fabric of the university.  The information contained in the book will provide campus leaders and those studying to be campus leaders with the knowledge and perspective to (a) institutionalize community engagement on their campuses by using a powerful and effective alignment model; (b) prepare their external communities to be effective partners with the university thereby creating win-win situations for both campus and community; and (c) impact state and federal policy in support of community engagement.  The book will provide a roadmap and concrete examples that have been used successfully to effect change on the campus, in the community, and in the policy arena. It will benefit those who are ready to create change or to understand how it is done.
